He firstly settled in San Vicente, then in Luján, La Choza, where in 1860 he acquired an estancia of 1/4 league. ‘The stranger will do well to visit the estancia of Mr. John Browne … he resides about two leagues south of Luxan, and has a fine estancia-house newly built, and surrounded with a quinta and peach plantation; our hospitable countryman is native of Wexford, and has resided many years in the country’ (Mulhall, M.G. & E.T., Handbook of the River Plate, 1869, Sect. C, p. 87). Married to Anne Slamon in 1 January 1847. Died 1888 in Wexford.

Coghlan mentions that ‘Lawrence Murphy arrived in Buenos Aires on 4 July 1844 in the "William Peele", together with his brother John, a sister whose name I do not have, who at that time was the fiancée of William Whitty, and his cousin John James Murphy’ (Coghlan, 1987). However, there are no entries for a Murphy girl in the list.

Together with his husband and their her daughters, she emigrated to Argentina ‘in the "Robert Peele", and arrived in Buenos Aires in 1844. In Argentina, she married to James O’Neill. She died a widow on 2 February 1882 in Vedia’ (Coghlan 1987).
